Be Careful what you buy (Scam alert)) Garage Sale Board:

Be Careful What You Buy Scam Alert KingsHand (Conrad)

Hello all,

Allow me to tell my story. Kingshand, formly known as Conrad, purchased my BraillePlus. Since he wasn't interested in giving me anywhere close to my asking price, which was$500.00, I said, "What about your Lenovo T60?" That isn't even that decent of a laptop anyway; i thought I would purchase for a back-up computer. In order to verify who he said he was, I charged him $100.00 with PayPal. PayPal then held my information because I was a new seller. I tested the unit twice before shipping and it worked flawlessly. He receives it and states "it says files are missing." How could that be, when I had tested it twice, unless it was damaged in shipping, or you didn't know what you were doing. He further states that he performed a factory flash, which is supposed to restore the BraillePlus from the rescue partition in the hard drive. I put those steps there for him, but, he said again, "It still says the same thing." He opened a dispute with me on PayPal. He asked for a refund. I gave him the refund because I'm not worried about one hundred dollars, since I thought at least FedEx insurance would cover it, right? Not. I called FedEx with the tracking number. They said, we have to send someone to his house. Well, that's funny, because, he sent me an invalid UPS tracking number. And, even if he shipped it back to me, I doubt that he would ship it in the original box. Don't conduct business with him. Bad news:)

This is for everyone to see that Nathan does not know how to check a tracking number:
UPS 1Z4R267E0349000301
Anyone can check the number and see that it is valid. I have sold itoms to others and there were no problems.

Public is public, so I as a past satisfied customer wish to respond:
Kingshand sold me a T-Mobile Dash 3 years ago with Mobile Speak. It worked beautifully up until I got the iPhone 4S. Since my wife can see she does not need the reader, and since she is not the barbarian I am, she would not have liked the various ringtones I had put on it. So I reset the phone to factory settings and gave it to her. This was an upgrade for her until we get her an iPhone. It's still working great.
The only other situation was a Braille display which I had ordered. For whatever reason, it was no longer available, and he promptly told me so, and promptly issued me a refund.
Probably that T-Mobile Dash would continue to work for the foreseeable future - especially with a new battery - if anyone would actually want it nowadays. The only reason for retiring it will be because it's now rather obsolete and she will do better with an iPhone.
So I am responding as having been a satifisatisfied customer of Kingshand, and having had the product for over 3 years with two people now having used it.
One should be very careful before blacklisting someone as a skammer, especially on the Internet.

Agree with Leo. You're setting yourself up for a lot of legal trouble if you accuse someone of being a scammer and the information you post turns out to be false. Hopefully for your sake, King'shand will choose not to resort to such measures.

Is it possible, due to the defamatory nature of this board, for the mods to either take it down or remove the identifying information from it?

Try reporting it and see what happens.

Since one person got bad experience with one seller, we cannot say as he is a cheater or a scam. See? guess already two people got good opinion about him.

Don't spit your words soon, I say.

Raaj.

There's this thing called mistakes. If the tracking number was wrong, maybe it was misunderstood. Why must you be so quick to jump down his throat and call him a scammer or con artist?

Post 12 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 08-Oct-2012 9:40:13

Claire has already seen this board, and asked that the issue itself be taken off board. She could have removed it then, so maybe there isn't enough personal information to take it down.

Hm, well, at first the number definitely came back invalid. It took about 2 days for it to come back positive. Anyway, I know how to check a tracking number, and I definitely know that the BraillePlus was working when I sold it to you. Anyway, he's shipping it back; hopefully, I can get my insurance back. Just never sell something that is outdated I guess.

No, it wasn't a scam, but, it sure seemed like it because the tracking number, for some reason, did not return any information at first. Apologize to all:)

Post 14 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 08-Oct-2012 14:55:05

Sometimes it takes 24 hours for a tracking number to become active. I applaud you for having the guts to come back and appologize for this, but I would urge you to be very, very careful before accusing someone of scamming in the future.

Yes, it was not polite; I assumed the worst because I have been through a lot of scams online. Sorry everyone.

Post 16 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 09-Oct-2012 8:42:52

if you're gonna be sorry, don't apologize to us. apologize to king'shand, and yourself, cause, in the end, you're the one who has to live with this/learn from it.

Post 17 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Tuesday, 09-Oct-2012 11:52:38

Cudoes to Nathan for being strong enough to come back and admit he made a mistake and to appologize for it.
So many others wouldn't. Instead they would continue trying to justify their mistakes and grovel their disputes..

Post 18 by hardyboy09 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2012 1:11:11

Well, it was delivered. So, there, I'm sorry. Everyone makes mistakes and I made one. Like I stated earlier, the tracking number did not appear within 24 hours, but it did appear later. So, this conversation and what I will further contribute is closed. Yes, I admitted my wrongdoings, would you? I will personally apologize with Kingshand. My school has to sort through all of the packages, but I am sure it is their. It says left at dock. That means, people still have to sort through it. One thing that is bizarre is that the school didn't notify me that it had been delivered; this is by no means Kingshand's fault. So, yes, it was a mess. I learned some things along the way...
Nathan. Thank you Nicky.

Post 19 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2012 13:11:16

Nathan, that is true. However one of my major concerns about a site like this is you can never remand such mistakes.
I have mistakenly posted to Twitter or Facebook, then removed the posts when I found they were in error. Lucky me or people would have showed up at an event at a wrong time.
This site has no means of reparation and this you should bear in mind. Further, even Facebook and Twitter have a lot of content shared or linked to. Even this site has that ability though I do not have a Digg or Delicious account to see how it gets used.
This is stuff I tell the nieces and daughter: it's a requirement now of growing up in the Social Networking age. How to navigate? Must be somewhat of a challenge at your age where many things happen on impulse: I often am left wondering what foolery I would have put out there
This site in particular is unique because you cannot ever take anything down off of it. So if for instance, I had posted a board topic stating where an event was going to be held and I got the time wrong, instead of like Facebook where I can remove it and repost a new one, I'd have to update the topic first and afterwards hope that people read that far down before ttaking off to go there at the wrong time.
Just a silly example but nonetheless very much the way things work on this site in particular, and to some extent, on the web in general now.

Actions speak louder than words. Saying sorry doesn't always mean shit, but we'll see.
